What I would say at in the Mk3 firmware, the best way to speed it up is to shorten the distance between the Y adapter and the extruder. I prefer to have the Y adapter right at the exruder, which will allow you to get color changes down to just about 15 seconds. For every inch away from it, you add 2 seconds of time.
Well, that's what Mode 3 does by default. You enter that distance into the GCode Generator as the "Backout Distance in Seconds." Basically, 1 second per 2.5cm or 1 inch.
