I've just been notified that this forum will be shut down on May 15th, 2025. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen a company do. I was notified on May 4th, 2025 that this is happening in 11 days.
I spend most of my time managing the spam messages in this forum and blocking bad actors... and I want to thank each and everyone of you who have reported these messages to me. It appears that Wix (the website host) is forcing this migration... and will disable this forum on May 15th and will delete it on September 1st. I'm looking into migrating it over to their Wix Groups... which they say is "mostly automatic" but I need to move each and every user over to it. They said they will automatically migrate the content, but that I still need to migrate the users over. They also said that I need to migrate any URLs in it over... which is an impossible task, as I'd have to go through each and every post and find the new location in the Wix Group to change it. I also have no way of knowing who has linked to them outside of the forum. With this all in mind, I'm thinking I should just let them migrate it over to a static Wix Group and have you all continue having conversations over on the Github page. But in the mean time, I'd love to hear your ideas on this?
I'll keep monitoring (and complaining to Wix) about this sudden and extreme change... but what are your thoughts or suggestions?
Bill
Ok, I've added both a Wiki and a Discussions tab to the Github page. I think we will "freeze" this forum as it is on the 15th... and use Github to point over to it as part of the Wiki/Discussions pages... and when someone comes here, it'll point back to the Github page instead. These pages will not be visible, but accessible from the Github links.
Am I missing anything?
Bill
I also wonder if you could make a GitHub forum, and embed it, so you can still use it via the forums section of the website.
GitHub seems a good idea - firmware, stl and forum in one single point of contact.
Bill great idea I think also the minds in this forum we can create something interesting to either move or convert to GitHub as we can take this forum and convert to GitHub. I can help later this week by sending the instructions to you. Someone though may come back and have a better way.
I like the GitHub idea. Maybe something similar to the 3MS GitHub, but it allows post creation. I do not know how to set that up, so it is probably easier said than done. If that fails, then maybe you could set up an official reddit where people can post and comment.
I might add, I like the idea of using Github for this... as it makes it more a community forum instead of this one being 100% in my control. It also allows Github to mange users and security.
