Has anyone had success with getting the 3D chameleon working on the creality K1? I would really like to get a system like this for my K1 but haven't seen anyone using it yet.
Your tinkercad link doesnt work anymore. Anyway you can post a new one? I'm trying to decide on whether or not to pull the gun on this. Will you ever make a video with this on a K1?
i did get it to work with the k1 and had a succesfull colour print, but the time to require to print a small object is to be honest too long. slicer said 3.5 hours print turned out to be double of that cause of wait times to colour change.
also tried to design a clipy for it but i fail as im not a designer. so took the device of the k1 and going to place it on a ender 3 instead.
I am trying to get it set up in Orca slicer since Prusa wasn't handling the aux fan.I am bit confused where to put my toolchange g-code, and how using the built-in ramming from Orca will work with that. Do I just delete my tip shaping code and have it go straight to unloading and loading?
received my chameleon today, installed everything and used the profile on printables for the k1. think im doing something wrong with loading filament and setting it up initially. do i make sure that the filament is already loaded in the extruder ? if i do i end up with a blob at the switch, if i dont it does not load enough filament. when printing it messes everything up. on orca its like the z is not moving so 2nd layer is kinda ok 3rd layer is a big mess scraping everything off. on prusa when printing looks like its not extruding enough, when i switch back to regular without chameleon everything is working fine. on orcaslicer. so im geusting the gcode is doing something it should not
ok so i had it not set in mode 3, which i did now and seems to be working so far. except for the time it requires, since i cut off the tubes to be shorter from the 2 stepper motors to the special filament bracket where the filiment gets switched .i need to adjust the time it needs to load and unload ofcourse, what do i change exactly?
@Austin : Did you get Chameleon working with K1? I've noticed you can root the machine and install your own firmware as well as use Orca or PrusaSlicer with the K1 and K1 Max.
I haven't gotten around to printing as I need to make adjustments to the gcode but I have gotten it to properly switch filaments now. You can use prusa and orca with or without root. Shouldn't make much of a difference either way. I'm stock os still and it hasn't affected anything.
I don't see anything wrong with it. When you say it's giving you an out of bounds error, I don't even know exactly what that means... Can you be more specific? Have you really got the X axis at -5? Also, your G8 while it's waiting for the filament to change is too long... It shouldn't take more than 1.5 seconds for that.
Can you post a picture or better, video, of the error happening so I can see which command it's erroring on?
I've tried changing files to see if that was the issue but the problem happens with any stl file I use. Like I mentioned, it seems to work just fine until I add the mode 3 section then it wont slice for some reason. Before adding the mode 3 section even with the X at -5 it would slice no problem so im unsure where its getting the error from.
I think I got it sorted out. I forgot to include the code to set the extruder to relative mode. Seems to slice fine now. Just need to test it now and see if that works.
I only support PrusaSlicer directly, but Bambu and all the forks of both of them should still work without issue... it's just that there are so many I have no idea what someone is using... When I say PrusaSlicer, if it works there, it should work in it's forks. I've never even heard of Galaxy Slicer, in fact.
I see nothing wrong this this gcode (except the note below)... are you sure you're not failing somewhere else? When you say it's not working... what specifically are you seeing? Also, if you're using Mode 3, why do you have such a short movement... 8 seconds indicates 8 inches... there's no way that can be valid... Mode 2 moves 10 inches... and Mode 3 is designed for longer distances. The path from top of the Y adapter to the extruder must be 10" or greater for the 3DChameleon to work. If you're really only at 8", then you should use Mode 2 directly.
This was in regard to the comment on my own post where i was asking about help with the g code for the tool change. I had seen you say you were out of town so I figured you had been occupied with that

Thanks again!

There's nothing special about the K1... it's just a normal installation.
Here are the printed files you need. (Really, it's just the mount.) https://www.tinkercad.com/things/6moW310GzKZ-3dchameleon-for-creality-k1 And here's a picture of the switch mounted to the K1 using our standard NEMA 17 switch mount.
As for the GCode, you can use our Mk3 GCode Generator out of the box.
