i just read all of that, but i just have no idea how to adjust it to fix it. ill watch that video you sent me yesterday one more time explaining gcode, but im truly totally lost at this point.

here is what it looks like just using the k1 max menu and retracting the material. that piece on the tip is what is staying inside and stopping up the nozzle.

ill watch it after work today. where am i needing to adjust the gcode, in the toolhead script that comes from your generator?

unfortunately, as i mentioned in my very 1st email you you a couple weeks ago before i purchased the chameleon, i know nothing about gcode, so i honestly have no earthly idea how to do what you are suggesting.

ok, latest update. had major clog last night, so gave up. Came home from work, put in a new hotend, and was back up and going with just using the k1 as normal. decided to hook up chameleon, and no, extruder clog again. im not sure what needs to be adjusted in gcode, but here is a pic of the 1st nozzle i pulled out today. right there on the end that goes into the ceramic, a small piece of material keeps getting left inside it when it retracts, and causes it to jam up. it just did it on the 2nd nozzle, but i was able to heat it up to 300 and shove the small needle through the tip of the nozzle and it acutally pushed the piece that was stuck inside it, upwards enough for me to grab it and pull it out. so for now, im just not sure what to do or what settings to adjust.

i just tried once more. at this point i just really dont know what else to try. after it printed the first several layers and went to switch, of course it didnt switch. it tried, but it didnt. so i canceled print, pulled the ptfe tube out of the top of my extruder, and this is what it looks like. seems to be no reason why the chameleon extruder didnt pull it back to where it needs to be to load the next material? it wasnt restricted at all and i didnt have to apply any force to get it out. It seems like when it goes to do this switch to the next material, it is trying to do it so fast that its not pulling it all the way back.. im out of ideas for the day. been trying for another 5 hours today, with no luck. i get up at 2am for work, so im shutting down for the day so i can make dinner and get to bed. i will try once more tomorrow if you have any other suggestions, but after that, i just truly cant keep messing with it. i just dont know what to do and apparently it is way beyond my knowledge.

tried larger tube, but its just not coming out of extruder all the way before it tries to load the next filament. maybe another setting i need to adjust.

oh, and here is where i had to mount my switch. its at that angle because i had already hot glued it that mount that came with the chameleon, but it was still triggering it. so had to loosen that one screw and adjust. no, this is not permanent, but its working for testing purposes. i set the Y axis at 306. the metal rail is actually what bumps up against it and triggers it.

just put in a different one and changed the F speed back to 4000 and 100. trying again

its still getting stuck trying to retract from extruder. tried the settings you listed earlier, to cut the speed in half and that ended up way worse. tubes are flared. and ill have to check the ID of the tubes i got to see if any are 2.0. just had a great 1st run on material. was crossing fingers it would retract, but no go. stuck in extruder. had to unlock it, remove ptfe tube from extruder, and pull it out by hand.

just tried running it again. got the 1st material to load finally. it ran the 1st layer, then went to switch, and it got stuck in tube and didnt retract. Here is what my tip looks like. it is swollen and didnt want to fit back through tube.

if i could explain, i would. the x max 3 is different. it doesnt retract the material fully. it even tells you to pull on the material as its retracting to prevent clogging. so apparently since it doesnt retract it fully on its own. the tip gets stuck inside as it cools. maybe i shouldnt say clogged nozzle and say clogged extruder. dont know, but as i said, im onto a different printer with this. spent way too much time messing with the x max 3. maybe someone else can possibly get it on theirs and post how they did it.

ill definitely give it a test later. how are you running it on your k1? The extruders on these should be almost identical. Do you have the settings you run on the k1? Ive got the switch mostly figured out and is working as of right now, where i have it installed. Its all the way back on my Y axis at about 306mm. That gives room for the toolhead to do its nozzle wipe without tripping the switch, then move back to trip when its time for material. But what distance is your k1 set as far as extruder to nozzle?

ill mess around with it more this afternoon. i know for sure i cant get it to work on the qidi printer. it even tells you during filament extraction, to apply pressure and pull on the filament as its extracting to ensure it doesnt clog. the k1 max seems to at least retract it all the way out of the gears by itself, but im still getting clogging issues. im at work, so ill have to test these things this afternoon. hopefully i can get it to work soon.

also, as for the clogged nozzle. what appears to be happening is with the timing of the main extruder vs the chamelon. the 4 or 5 times its clogged, on the x max 3 and the k1 max, the main extruder backs out, then the chameleon fails to pull it back any further, so its basically left right at the start of the main extruder gears and not fully backed out of them. Then when the next material tries to feed in, it cant because the 1st filament didnt retract all the way and is still at the start of the extruder gears inside the nozzle. at that point, the material is basically stuck and i have to do a cold pull to get it out, or on the k1, i had to shove the metal rod down through the nozzle last night to get it to clear. on each printer i tried to manually extrude via the printers extrude functions, but netiher would retract it any further. i dont really know how to explain this any other way, but these are the observations i have noticed with how its acting. im hoping i can try the tuning slider and maybe it will solve that issue of the chameleon not gripping the material tight enough to pull it out.

ill check out these sliders this afternoon as well and give them a try. ill also look into the tip shaping tuning if i can find info on that, and would also love to give 3dclippy a try.

I tried mounting it there, with that same bracket and same location, but when the head goes back to wipe nozzle it slams into the bracket and the belts grind and slip, so i had to take unscrew it from that bolt and move it back towards the tensioner where the edge is basically flush with the motor. then the metal rod the head slides on actually trips the switch now instead of slamming into the switch mount. ill get pics this afternoon after work. The pics look the same, but i think the nozzle moves back further on the max than on the regular k1. Do you have a pic of your whole rail with nozzle all the way back?
