I've found it every bit as effective to raise the current to the stepper rather than decrease the steps. Also, this doesn't require homing to reset it.
This is the code snippit that does the trick:
M906 X1060 ; Boost Stepper Current ; cut off filament tip G0 X35 F5000 ; Cut the filament quickly G0 X-35 F5000 ; Move X back to position M906 X580 ; Restore Stepper CurrentNote that the control board has to support current change. Older Creality boards don't.
