I received my kit. I watched the videos and read the instructions but I have questions. Some of the instructions and videos do not cover the operation fully.
How do I load filament accurately to stop just above each of the four chameleon inlets? I understand the settings from that point to the extruder gear but with accurate loading, how is it possible to be consistent? I can shove a filament into the stepper assembly at random lengths. How would an typical operator (my wife) change colors correctly?
Can I cut the four lines to the chameleon? They are way too long.
Do I have to operate the switch to load the four filaments?
Also, can you point me to a diagram of the chameleon tube inlet numbers? I want to make sure I got 1,2,3,4 in the correct place.
1) The filament should always be loaded about 1" before the Y adapter into each tube. When the system unloads, it will always unload to the exact same spot just before the extruder gears... from that point forward, it will always back out the filament to the same spot... you can note that spot and use it from that point forward. (That distance is actually dependent on your PTFE tube length between the Green Y adapter and the Extruder/Hot End.) 2) You should definitely trim them to a shorter length. As long as they're at least 4" long, you can trim them to any length required to allow full travel of your hot end. 3) That's dependent on the machine it's installed on and how it's installed. If you're using the extruder loader/unloader (Mode 2), then all you need to do is to home it.... it will move to the 1st position. From there, just push in the #2, #3 and #4 colors to the 1" before the Y adapter. Load the #1 filament just into the 3DChamleon, holding it against the drive gear... Then you can press for 1 pulse, it will automatically pull that filament into the 3DChameleon 10". And then let go of it. You can then just push it the rest of the way to 1" before the Y adapter. On extruder replacement machines, you can simply use the "Load Filament" feature of the printer to load it.
