Flashforge AD5M Setup

Hello,

I have an AD5M with mod klipper and enclosure working very fine, so, I'm thinking to move on to next "upgrade".

I found 3D chameleon a right upgrade for my printer, but like not found the 3DC board anywhere, I'm looking for help to choose the right board and the right components for setup and after all, made a step by step to help others.

I read here that we can use CNC Shield V3 or V4. So, first question, what should be better having in mind that in the future, add more?

Other question is about stepper drivers, most of that board come with A4988 driver or DRV8825, what should I choose? What the difference? And about A4988, some have different versions, like green, red, etc, have some difference?

Next question is about motors, after search for motors NEMA 17, I found various sizes. Any size with 42x42 wide should work? I found some off them more slim than others (17HS4023 for example).

i have installed 3d chameleon on my 5M and its perfect. i make many tests (with/without servo, with/without lcd, many differents ptfe joiners .. ) and its fully function. one filament changing takes about 1 minute include printing prime tower. i have couple unassembled pcbs for selling, but only for EU users. Alternatively, I can make one PCB with components and upload firmware (without stepper drivers).

i recomend using 17HS4401 stepper motor.

I would recommend the CNC Shield v4 board, with A4988 drivers. The reason you have to get this kit is that other cheap $2 AliExpress boards just don't work, so don't bother buying them, and I have a thread (https://www.3dchameleon.com/forum/support/help-on-setup-for-cnc-shield-v4-ankermake-m5c) where I help people set their shield up, and help anyone who has problems on their setup. In my opinion it is the easiest option.

There isn't much documentation, but you could try. Someone else was looking on doing it for a 5M, so you should ask them about it.

I will check the other posts. With CNC Shield v4, after i install the firmware, i need to keep the arduino uno in the board to all work or the arduino are only to flash the main board? Or it is a complete system? everything need everything?

For the chameleon, you don't need to flash the printer mainboard. It can be setup on any printer. That was just a side project I was doing to remove the need for a switch. For a regular setup, all you will need for the mainboard is the CNC Shield v4 (or v3)
