Just got the Chameleon up and running on a P1P, and a couple questions.
What is the proper process for loading filament into the Chameleon? It seems like there are some positions that filament just will not go through the unit. Is it home?
Is there a certain combination of which position in the Chameleon lines up with which green inlet? I cut down the tubes and am not sure I got them back where the originally were. The filament in the top 2 inlets is about 2" further from the extruder than the bottom 2, is this a concern?
The tube exiting the number 4 spot on the chameleon pushed out while running the test print, and now will not stay in. How are these held in place? Do I need to disassemble the unit to reclamp it?
Finally, the Chameleon placement on the back of the P1P makes it incredibly hard to access and load filament into. I pretty much have to spin the machine around and tilt it up to see under there. Can tubes be clamped into the inlet side as well? I tried push some in, but there was no grip at all.
Bonus question - What are the blue non-passthrough fittings for?
Here's the pictures.
The new design works very well. I had a tube pop out during assembly. Since I printed and then cut the tubes, they haven't budged any. As to the location of the chameleon, you can mount it just about anywhere. I will take a picture of mine and upload it in the morning.
You should always load the filament about 1" before the Y adapter for each color. When it loads the first time, it will back it out to the correct position it expects. From there, you can note (or tape/sharpie) the location on the tube where it likes it. As for it popping out, there are two fixes... it's held in with a brass acorn compression fitting. One is to reapply that acorn fitting. 4mm Compression Fitting from Amazon. However, we have a newer design that you can also print a new B/C part pair that holds in the PTFE with a cut in slot. You can find them here: https://www.printables.com/model/354998-3dchameleon-bc-replacement-parts-with-ptfe-grip This is much easier to use than the brass compression fittings. Just print all 3 pieces... use the small one as a jig to cut out the four notches in the PTFE tube and clamp it together in the other two. You'll want to print two sets if you want to upgrade all 4 PTFE tubes to the notch clamp design. As for the location of the unit, you can place it anywhere you want... we just made a simple mount for the back that fits both the P1P and the X1C, but you're more than welcome to come up with your own designs for it. Note, the Y adapter must be a short distance away from the extruder with the Mk3 in Mode 2... but if you update the firmware, you can use our new Mode 3 which allows the Y adapter to be used at any distance from the extruder.
Search the forum on upgrading the firmware for detailed instructions.
